About Me

I’m a digital marketer aspiring to help grow as many businesses as possible.
I chose to study Biology at the University of South Carolina knowing I had an inclination toward the sciences in high school. After graduating, I wasn’t sure exactly which direction to take but what I did know was that I wanted to help people in some way. I think most college graduates feel pressured to pick a career as soon as they walk across the stage and take off that cap and gown. I was definitely one of them, so, as not to lose momentum, I went ahead and applied for the dental hygiene program at Midlands Technical College. I thought that it would come naturally to me with my background in Biology and guiding people along their oral health journey sounded fulfilling enough.

I spent a year living at home and waiting tables to save up while completing the first phase of the dental hygiene program. While waiting to begin the second stage of the program, I decided to work in a dental practice to become familiar with the environment. I worked the front desk but observed and helped the hygienists to start getting a feel for it. It didn’t take long for me to realize I wasn’t too crazy about the clinical aspect of dentistry. I did, however, embrace all of the content writing and marketing tasks my manager assigned to me.
I enjoyed that I could use my creativity to engage an audience and inspire them to take action. After a couple of months I fully took on the role of social media manager, marketing relations and content creator. Around the same time, I honed into this creative side of myself and discovered a passion for pasta. Well… to be honest, I’ve always had a romantic relationship with pasta, but I actually taught myself how to hand make pasta at home and it was a GAME CHANGER. I wanted to share this artesanal craft with my local community. The obvious next step for me was to use my copywriting skills to market my own brand. I called it “Carbs by Carla”. Has a nice ring to it, huh?
*I’m a sucker for a good pun and a little alliteration.*
