*THE James Island PSD Fire Department (JIPSDFD) HAS FIREFIGHTER II POSITIONS AVAILABLE*

The JIPSDFD is open to all firefighters with Firefighter II certifications interested in joining their crew. We want to take this opportunity to showcase our amazing crew members and explain why they believe JIPSDFD is an excellent workplace.

Battalion Chief Kyle Tillman has served with the JIPSDFD for over ten years, with sixteen years in the fire service in total. He is a dedicated worker and an honorable role model to his crew members.

BC Tillman’s admiration and respect for James Island, his hometown, led him to join the Fire Service. Though it’s grown over the years, he appreciates that it still has a small-town feel. “It’s one of the best places to live. I would do anything for this island.”

What BC Tillman loves most about the JIPSDFD is the camaraderie he shares with his crewmates. “The people are what makes the job. These guys care about the citizens. They care about each other. They are what makes the district what it is.”

BC Tillman deeply understands that he didn’t get where he is by himself. “We’re not workers, we’re family. Their success is my success. I want them to be just as good as they want me to be. We win and lose as a team.”

After ten years of service at JIPSDFD, BC Tillman decided to explore other options but soon recognized the grass is not always greener on the other side.

Continuing his career at three other departments, he quickly realized he became a number with no sense of family dynamic. He ultimately returned to JIPSDFD, where he truly feels at home. “I never had the feeling that I have [at other fire departments] when I come here. These guys are humble. They’re able to see faults within themselves and have deep conversations when necessary.”

BC Tillman is thankful for Dave Schaeffer, the JIPSD District Manager, who has shown him and his crewmates a lot of consideration and support. “He really knows his employees and gives them a sense of importance. There are protocols that have been put into place that have really made our lives easier.”

Among these protocols are:
1. JIPSD Community, Commission, and Administrative support for replacing and enhancing Fire Station #2.
2. In December 2023, a new ladder truck will be arriving, complete with brand-new rescue tools and equipment. The crew had a say in outfitting the ladder and its tools.
3. The JIPSD Fire Department has switched to the PORS retirement plan, which requires a notably shorter period of service before retirement and significantly increases the amount of interest earned annually until retirement.
4. Wednesday Drill Nights to enhance skillset and readiness.

BC Tillman emphasized the importance JIPSDFD places on continuous education and growth. “We get paid to take classes and continue growing. There are incentives to take classes and be better.”

The JIPSDFD is lucky to have such a devoted, hardworking, and caring Battalion Chief on our crew.

🦷 Why Are Composite Fillings a Better Alternative to Amalgam?
1. They are tooth-colored so they’re not noticeable to the naked eye 👁️
2. They bind to the surface of the tooth easily compared to amalgam fillings. This means that more of the natural tooth is preserved with composite fillings, maintaining a stronger foundation for the filling to attach to 💪
3. Composite fillings are safer for more of the population than amalgam fillings are. Amalgam fillings contain mercury; although this poses no risks to the general population, some patients have shown to be allergic or sensitive to it ⚠️

Email Marketing Campaigns

Modern Family Dentistry

In April 2021, I launched a campaign for Modern Family Dentistry’s dental savings plan to inform all patients lacking insurance that they have an affordable option for dental care. I wrote and designed an email marketing campaign using RevenueWell which yielded a 28% open rate and brought in $12,382 worth of revenue.
In July 2021, I launched an email marketing campaign for a financing option called Sunbit. This email yielded a 39% open rate and triggered 13 patient visits in the span of 2 months. 
I launched 3 different email marketing campaigns for an in-house teeth whitening product called ZOOM. The first email launched in March 2021 and produced a 26% open rate, the second email launched in March 2022 and produced a 44% open rate, and the third email launched in May 2022 and produced a 52% open rate. Each time, I made sure to adjust the subject line and content according to patient interaction and seasonal factors. 
This newsletter was sent in August as a way to provide patients a resource for proper home dental care. It also served as subtle way to urge past-due patients to book an appointment. This email triggered 20 patient visits and yielded a 29% open rate. 

Rotary Club of St. Andrews - Charleston

I used Mailchimp to design a marketing email for previous customers and subscribers of the rotary club’s raffle website. This email yielded an open rate of 73.8% and a click rate of 10.8%. 9 sales were made the day this email was delivered. 
I designed and wrote this marketing email using Mailchimp. This email informed the rotary club’s raffle ticket holders of what to expect on the day of the drawing. It also served to create a sense of urgency and trigger a final ticket sale push. This email yielded an open rate of 58.3% and a click rate of 10.7%. 11 sales were made the day this email was delivered.
